I designed a top mounted box with eight buttons to control MAME and Hyperlaunch instruction cards. It also includes a master volume control knob that uses a separate USB interface to control the volume.

I used a AfterGlow xbox 360 Wired controller (I found at Microcenter for $25) to connect the buttons. I probably would have used a cheaper option but, I needed a board that could interface with an old set of 360 racing pedals. This gamepad is much easier to work with than an original xbox 360 controller.

The gamepad and volume control fit nicely into a project box I found at Fry’s. I also bought an assortment of tactile colored butons to control the functions of Mame and Hyperlaunch instruction cards. The instruction card control was the main reason I built this, since I wanted to easily flip through different cards I have made for street fighter.

The eight buttons are set to control the following functions in MAME and Hyperlaunch:
1. Mame config menu
2. Next instruction card (left side)
3. Previous instruction card (left side)
4. Instruction card visibility toggle
5. Next instruction card (right side)
6. Previous instruction card (right side)
7. Favorites for hyperspin
8. not being used

The image above shows how it looks mounted on my control panel. I will have to reprint the decal, since I labeled the eight button “+ fav”. I thought hyperspin had a dedicated button for adding favorites, but it doesn’t. Well, back to work…
