Quick Release Hub On The T300rs Steering Wheel Or T300 Servo Base

Add a quick release hub adapter to your T300 steering wheel or servo base by 3d printing these STL files. If you want to add 6-bolt aftermarket wheels to your Thrustmaster T300, this makes it possible and practical because of the quick release feature. The 3d printed parts will precisely replace the original T300rs wheel mounting hardware. Everything fits securely without alignment issues. The STL files include two adapters to securely mount the specific steering wheel quick release hub. One of the adapters is used to attach a quick release hub to the original T300rs wheel. The other adapter can be used to attach additional aftermarket steering wheels to your T300 servo base.

The STL Files In This Project Are Designed To Be Compatible With This Quick Release Hub.

This 3D part can be purchased and downloaded as an STL file from my Cults page.
This project requires a quick release hub adapter that fits a 6-bolt steering column. Pay attention to my photos to see the internal ball bearings on the hub adapter. I’ve designed the STL files to couple this type of steering wheel hub. Some quick release hubs look the same on the outside but have more bearings on the inside which will not “lock in” to the STL files.

The 3d Printed Parts And Required Hardware To Complete This Project.


Part One:

How to add the quick release hub to the T300rs steering wheel

Adding a quick release hub to the t300 steering wheel will require 3d printing the STL file and replacing the original part on the thrustmaster steering wheel. This will most likely void your Thrustmaster warranty, so consider that before going forward. You will also need to create a wire connector (see photo below) that goes from the T300 wheel Pc board to the connector on the T300 servo base. Making the connector wire is not difficult but does require electronic soldering skills/supplies or a crimping tool.

Minimum Length Of Connector Cable For The T300 Wheel. It Needs A Male And Female Connector At The Ends. Check below to download the label I used in the photo to help you keep things organized.
Remove Three Screws From The Front Of The T300rs Wheel.

Once you have all the necessary hardware, continue to remove the three screws from the T300rs wheel as seen in the photo. These three screws will be used later to secure the new 3d printed adapter. Three nuts have to be inserted into the 3d part so that the steering wheel has something solid to hold on to.

Next, remove the seven screws from the back of the T300 wheel. Also, remove the two tiny screws that secure the connector wire to the three pronged piece. With the back cover removed, you can remove the original cable that is plugged into the back. That original cable will be installed onto the other 3d printed part that goes on the servo base. With the original cable removed, you can now install the new cable into the Pc board of the T300 wheel.

The new cable you create will have two ends, one which is a female and the other which is a male connector. Insert the female end of the new wire into the Pc board connector on the wheel as seen in the photo above. All the wires in the new connector should be color coded to avoid an improper connection. Bad things can happen if you invert these connectors, so make sure that you match up the wires correctly. You can download the labels I used in the photo to mark the correct wire order. The download link is listed in the “more photos of this project” below.

Install The 3d Printed Adapter And Hub To The T300 Wheel.

With the new wire connected, you can re-install the back cover and insert the 3d printed adapter (with three prongs) into the T300 wheel. The new cable will fit through the center hole on the quick release hub.

Ball Bearing Alignment To T300 Wheel.

The 3d printed part and quick release hub need to be oriented with the three ball bearings at the top of the steering wheel (see photo). This step is important so that the wheel is properly aligned with the blue marker centered at the top.

Additional Room To Install Guages Or Displays Between The Wheel And The Servo Base.


Part Two:

How to mount the quick release hub to the T300 Servo Base

Install the original wire that was removed from the steering wheel Pc board to the new 3d printed part. You will use the original tiny screws that came with the wheel to secure it to the new 3d printed piece. In the photo above you can see how I drilled lightening holes on the male connecter of the quick release hub to make the structure lighter. Take a look in the gallery to see photos showing how much weight was reduced.

The alignment pin on the original cable must be positioned as shown in the photo.

The original cable once installed on the hub, can be left loose or use the included cable holder STL file to clip it into place. The cable holder can then be secured to the hub using the two tiny screws that came with the hub.
