Mame Layout File For Spy Hunter Game 16:9 Format

My layout file for Spy Hunter running on Mame on a widescreen 16:9 TV. The screen shows the active weapons lit up to simulate the arcade lamps; during the boat stage.

I made a Mame layout file for the arcade Spy Hunter game. The Lay file is loaded via the Mame video options UI and it emulates the weapon icons that light up as you play (like in the real hardware) to indicate which weapons the player currently has active. I designed the layout file for a 16:9 TV screen and without a black border around the main game screen. The weapons displayed in the artwork are placed in order to match the button configuration on my T300 wheel.

My Mame Lay file for the Spy Hunter arcade game. The design includes the instruction cards and weapon lamps, arranged for a 16:9 TV format. This wheel has been modded to include a button where the PS logo sits.

The buttons are mapped in the following order; Top left: Missiles, Top right: Machine Guns, Bottom left: Oil Slick, and Bottom right: Smoke Screen. To add this upright artwork to Mame, just copy the “spyhunt.zip” file and move it to the following Mame directory –> Mame/artwork/. With the file in place, select the options in the Mame UI as shown in the screen below to display the artwork in the game. Cheers!

This screen shows the options selected to view the layout file I designed for Spy Hunter in Mame.
(updated 10/09/2024) The layout file lets users decide whether to show the shifter status on-screen.

I absolutely love this layout. Thank you so much for doing this. Any chance you can add in the gear shift to this? That would make this perfect.

Thank you for all your hard work on this!

Yes, I can add the standard gear shift feature. I must have inadvertently taken it off. I’ll update it in a week and thanks!
