Add this 3d printed sign to your home office pinboard and bring emphasis to the wild chaos of all your projects. The sign reminds you that time is ticking and deadlines need to be met before you run out of time. If you play arcade racing games, then you understand the reference. It is a fun way to stay on your toes and make it to the next checkpoint before time run outs. The lighted sign is shown above with the LED lights turned off. It is printed in PETG filament but should also be fine to print with PLA as the LED lights don’t produce much heat.
I use LED puck lights that are battery operated. In this way it keeps things simple and offers all the functionality that is built into the LED puck lights. If needed, the puck lights could be modified to use a 12v adapter and avoid using batteries altogether. I haven’t had to do that yet, because I haven’t had time to modify the puck lights. The STL files include two backlids, one with 3 inch puck LED light holes so that you can simply snap them in place and a second backlid without holes for your custom lighting needs.
The 3 inch puck LED lights have a remote control, color changing features like prism, pulse and a bunch of different color settings. Changing the batteries is done from the backlid. There is no need to open the lighted sign since the batteries can be access from the back. I printed the sign using a single extruder with manual filament changes. Depending on the filament you choose to use and the settings for your slicer, you might need to clean up the print before a filament color change. The PETG I used was very stringy, and required that I pause the print in the G-code to give me time to clean up all the white filament letters. This is necessary because once the light shines through it, you can see all the black stringiness.I use a Dremel with a soft brush attachment to clean up an PETG stringiness.
