Arcade style shifter mod for Thrustmaster TH8s

Thrustmaster TH8s shifter with the 3d printed arcade style 4 speed pattern in various colors and designs.

A 3D-printed mod for your Thrustmaster TH8s shifter that simplifies the shifter pattern to an arcade-style, four-gear H-pattern. This mod also allows quick shifter plate changes because it uses strong magnets to secure it in place. Download the STL files and print in your favorite colors or add your own custom graphics.

Popular arcade game titles that benefit from this mod include the Daytona USA series, the Cruis’n USA series, Battle Gear 4, Le Mans 24, Sega Rally, San Francisco Rush Extreme Edition, Dead Heat, Fast & Furious Arcade, and Scud Race. The simplified 3D-printed four-gear gate makes in-game shifting easier and more accurate. Games such as the Daytona USA series, in which “gear drifting” is a thing, can be enjoyed with this mod. Gear drifting is where you initiate a drift by changing to a lower gear instead of hitting the brakes. If you are unfamiliar with this technique, please check out MrThunderwing’s tutorial on YouTube.

The 3d printed 4 speed shifter plate on a TH8s. The colored plate can be easily swapped without having to dissasemble the TH8s.

The four-gear H-pattern can be easily swapped because the design uses magnets to secure the shifting plate instead of screws. You can switch from a four-gear H-pattern to an eight-gear H-pattern without having to disassemble the shifter. The photo above shows the four-gear H-pattern with a checkered flag motif, but the STL files also include a blank design for those who prefer to add their own graphics.

The 3d printed base is secured to the TH8s using the original screws.

Adding this mod to the Thrustmaster TH8s shifter requires disassembly of the shifter. The 3D-printed parts are a direct replacement and reuse the original screws of the TH8s. The original shifter parts are not altered, and the entire mod can be undone without any damage to the TH8s parts. Once the 3D-printed parts are secured using the original screws and additional magnets, the H-pattern plates can easily be changed without removing any screws. Check out this video (by Sim Racing Corner) demonstrating how to disassemble the Thrustmaster TH8s housing.

Arcade style H-pattern plate attaches to the TH8s with strong magnets.

The four-gear, arcade-style shifter pattern uses small but powerful neodymium magnets to secure it in place. When playing a game like GRID Arcade, which requires more gears, I simply swap to a conventional eight-gear plate. I also have a six-gear dogleg shifter plate for use on specific cars.

The STL files are designed to work with this type and size of magnets. See the photo for details. They can be purchased online or ebay.

The small magnets are required to hold the 3D parts in place. The magnets need to be glued to the 3d parts with the correct poles lining up. They need to come together when the parts are nearby and not repel each other. I use CA (cyanoacrylate) glue or Shoe Goo to secure the magnets to the 3D-printed parts.
