1st Gen Miata MX-5 Keychain 3d Printed, Custom Colors

Mazda Miata Mx5 NA keychain design for 3d printing in three colors.

A first generation Mazda Miata MX5 keychain to give your keys a personalized look. The keychain shows a 3/4 front view of a NA Miata with a roll-bar and lowered suspension. By using the filament color change feature in your 3d slicer software, you can easily print the keychain in your choice of colors. The 1st gen Miata MX-5 keychain artwork can be downloaded as an STL 3d file.

The artwork is designed to be printed small and requires a .25 nozzle size and .05 resolution setting. I printed my keychains in different PETG colored filaments for improved durability over PLA. Due to it being 3d printed with plastic filament; the keychain is extremely lightweight, just like the Miata!

Mazda Miata Mx5 NA keychain printed in PETG filament is durable and lightweight, just like the real car.

The Miata keychain is a tad smaller than the actual drivers key. The photo above shows my preferred “essentials” way of carrying 1990’s car keys; without a key fob. The artwork is sized to 80 mm x 33.8 mm x 1.73 mm (XYZ) and fits comfortably in the palm of your hand. It is designed to be 3d printed with manual filament color changes.

The overall design is composed of three layers that are “sandwiched” together at various heights to allow for filament color changes. At the base of the design I used white colored filament, followed by the Miata’s body color layer, and finally the top most layer which is black colored filament for the outlines.

The Miata Mx5 keychain is designed to be printed in three colors. Filament color changes can be done in the slicer software.

You don’t need a multi-colored extruder on your 3d printer to print this keychain design. Simply make filament color changes in your 3d printer slicer software. Once the file is being printed, you will need to manually change the filament color when the 3d printer prompts you to do so. For this project, there are a total of three color changes to achieve the desired look. Have Fun!

Filament color change is required for best results.
